Sketch

The repertoire is a wonderful collection of traditional and contemporary songs and tunes, plus the odd jazz classic for good measure. Collectively, Sketch pools 100 years of professional music experience!

Sketch are Maggie Boyle, Gary Boyle and Dave Bowie

Skietch Live

"Boyle's guitar is a weightless marvel, so sharp, clean and delicate is his picking." Mike Butler, Manchester CityLife

Gary's career began in the 1960's. His first big gig was in the mid 60's working with top British singer Dusty Springfield. This was followed by the first of two stints with Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll (2 albums) which included tours of the UK, Europe and the USA.

Among his many collaborations, he has worked with Danny Thompson’s “Whatever”, folk/rock band Eclection (with Gerry Conway and the late Trevor Lucas), Bert Jansch, John Etheridge and Jim Mullen.

His six solo albums have received huge critical acclaim, “The Dancer” winning the Pop/Jazz Award at Montreaux Jazz Festival.

Dave is primarily a soul boy, just looking for the groove. A 25-year association with sax player Snake Davis and guitarist Mark Creswell has established him as probably the UK’s only Northern Soul bass player - working with Martha Reeves and Edwin Starr (among a legion of other Motown stars) and recording with Blue.

His early pop career was managed (largely for deaf ears) by Andy Kershaw and included a single with TV presenter Carol Vorderman.

A whimsical career path has included punk/art band The Mekons, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (George Hinchliffe said ‘Dave is more intelligent than a bass-player needs to be’), tango and Cuban charanga. He plays with symphony orchestras and chamber groups in Leeds and York, and has recorded with Steve Phillips, Emily Druce and Brendan Croker.

He is currently also involved in a project with Snake Davis and Helen Watson called the Burden of Paradise.
